Manufacturing Barometer special focus: Trading beyond Brexit

Manufacturing Barometer special focus: Trading beyond Brexit

For some manufacturing businesses, confidenceĀ levels are starting to stabilise.

Despite the ongoing challenges of COVID-19 and Brexit, there are some signs of optimism from businesses across the SME manufacturing sector.

  • SME manufacturers are slowly starting to bounce back from COVID-19 with small increases in the percentages reporting increased sales, plans to invest in machinery and take on staff
  • Brexit issues are causing significant disruption including cost increases, difficulties obtaining raw materials and complications with exporting and importing goods
  • Less than a third of SME manufacturers feel they are getting the right support and guidance from Government on how to navigate changes caused by Brexit

This underlines the need for better communication and additional tailored support to avoid further disruption, safeguard jobs, and maintain future investment ambitions.
